How PULSE handles concerning responses
Every check-in is screened by rule-based logic before any personalized content is generated. Safety screening is never left to a language model.
Developer note: Clinical escalation thresholds shown in this prototype are placeholders and must not be used clinically until reviewed and approved by the appropriate oncology and institutional teams.
Low concern
Nothing in the check-in crosses a threshold. PULSE continues with personalized self-management support.
Needs attention
One or more responses suggest that additional support may help. PULSE encourages you to raise it with your care team.
Urgent
A response crosses an urgent threshold. PULSE shows your care team contact route and the urgent-care instructions your service provides.
Current placeholder rules
Thresholds are configurable and versioned. Each rule records its reviewer and approval status so that clinical governance can be evidenced before deployment.

If you feel very unwell
Contact your cancer care team using the route they gave you. If you have severe breathlessness, chest pain, uncontrolled bleeding, a temperature above 38°C, confusion, or you feel very unwell, follow your service’s urgent-care instructions or seek emergency care immediately. PULSE is not an emergency service.
